DP Jim Morrissette, Assistant Ben Chandler and Director/Producer Judith McBrien are filming architect Daniel Burnham’s work in Cleveland as part of the new documentary film, Make No Little Plans: Daniel Burnham and the American City. The film’s release will coincide with the centennial of Daniel Burnham and Edward Bennett’s 1909 Plan of Chicago in 2009. See www.burnhamplan100.org for more information.
Cleveland’s Group Plan of 1903, written by Daniel Burnham, John Carrere and Arnold Brunner was a significant development in early 20th century American city planning. It imagined an ensemble of public buildings clustered around a grassy mall headed by a new union railroad station on Cleveland’s lakefront. It thus linked a key mass transportation system with a large park and series of major buildings as a new downtown center.
Burnham also designed several notable buildings in Cleveland, all of which we will film. Contact us if you have stories to share about Cleveland and Burnham.
